About Mossy Tank

Mossy Tank is a research-led guide to planted aquariums — built specifically for beginners who want a thriving, low-maintenance tank without the overwhelm that usually comes with it.

The aquascaping hobby has an information problem. The advice is scattered across decade-old forums, contradictory YouTube comments, and product pages with obvious incentives to oversell complexity. Beginners either get buried in jargon or make expensive, avoidable mistakes — often both.

We built Mossy Tank to fix that. Every guide here is researched from the ground up: drawing on established hobbyist communities, peer-reviewed aquatic science, manufacturer data, and the collective knowledge of experienced aquascapers. We write for the person who just wants to know what to actually do — not every theoretical possibility.

How we approach our content

What we cover

Our core focus is low-tech planted tanks — setups that grow live plants without CO2 injection, complex dosing schedules, or expensive equipment. Within that, we cover betta tanks, shrimp and nano setups, beginner plant guides, troubleshooting, and gear recommendations.

As the site grows, we'll be expanding into programmatic plant and species guides — detailed care pages for hundreds of aquarium plants, fish, and shrimp species, built from structured research data.

Affiliate disclosure

Some links on this site are affiliate links — we may earn a small commission if you purchase through them, at no extra cost to you. This is how we keep the site running and the content free. We only recommend products we'd genuinely suggest to a friend setting up their first tank. See our full affiliate disclosure for details.
